How Long Do Kitchen Cabinets Take to Arrive on Long Island?

This is the number nobody volunteers at the showroom, and it is the one that decides whether you cook Thanksgiving in your own kitchen.

Showroom cabinet lead times in 2026 run about 3 to 8 weeks for semi-custom and 6 to 16 weeks for fully custom, and that clock starts at final order, not at your first appointment — design revisions happen before it starts, so a “six-week” kitchen is often nine weeks from the day you walked in. Order in the March-to-June rush and add another week or two.

The gap between the quoted lead time and the real one

Showrooms quote the lead time from the day the order is finalized. You experience it from the day you walked in. Between those two dates sits the design phase — measurements, revisions, the drawing you did not love, the door sample that had to be reordered — and that phase routinely eats two to four weeks before the factory clock even starts.

So when someone says six weeks, plan on nine. When someone says twelve, plan on fifteen. And if you are ordering between March and June, when the whole industry is at peak capacity, add another one to two weeks on top.

Lead times by cabinet type, 2026

• RTA and stock cabinets — 1 to 2 weeks. Ready-to-assemble, limited sizes and finishes. Fast and cheap, and it shows.
• Semi-custom — 3 to 8 weeks, averaging about six. This is what most Long Island kitchens actually are. Standard boxes, wide choice of doors, finishes and modifications.
• Fully custom — 6 to 16 weeks or longer. Built to your dimensions. Worth it for an awkward room, expensive and slow for a rectangular one.
• Already in a warehouse — days. Rare, because it only happens when somebody else's order got cancelled.

What the wait actually costs you

It is not just inconvenience. A long lead time compounds into real money and real risk.

• You live without a kitchen longer. Six weeks of takeout for a family of four is not a rounding error.
• The permit clock can run. A Brookhaven building permit is valid one year from issue, and a stalled cabinet order is one of the more common reasons a job drifts. More on the Brookhaven clock.
• Price protection may lapse. Ask specifically how long your quoted price is held. Some hold to delivery, some to a fixed date.
• Your contractor's schedule moves on. A crew booked for March does not sit idle waiting for June cabinets. You go back in the queue.

The in-stock alternative

There is one honest way to skip the wait entirely: buy cabinets that already exist. That is what we sell.

Our installed kitchens run $20,000 to $30,000 — cabinets, quartz counters, an island, a new sink and the plumbing, demo and haul-away, and labor. Not included: backsplash, appliances, flooring, and handles on most sets. The price works for a specific and finite reason: the cabinet sets came from projects that were cancelled after the cabinets had already been ordered, so they are paid for and sitting in our warehouse. When they are gone the price goes back to market.

The honest limitation: you are choosing from what exists rather than specifying what you want. If you have your heart set on a particular door in a particular color, wait for the factory. If you want a good kitchen soon at a price below the market, this is faster and cheaper than anything a showroom can offer.

• Is that lead time to the warehouse, or to my house?
• How long is my price held?
• What happens to the schedule if the delivery slips two weeks?
